The CARPHART full tang fixed blade
Some people consider carp "trash fish" while others obsessively spend all of their free time looking for these golden giants. Carp are amazing for so many reasons. They have an elephant's memory, fight hard and grow really big. In Europe they are considered to be one of the greatest game fish and anglers spend insane money and time to tangle with these special fish. Any angler that hasn't targeted big carp in their life will be missing an incredible experience that will build your fishing skill level. I can write an entire book on carp fishing and I haven't even scratched the surface of knowledge one needs to be a consistently successful carp angler.
Author Horace Kephart who wrote a Book on camping and woodcraft was Published in 1906. In this Book he described the perfect knife which he contracted a Blacksmith to make his version in 2 different sizes. Made by the Colclesser Brothers in Pennsylvania, the 4" Blade sold for $1.75 and the 5" Blade sold for $2.00.
Many companies and small custom builders alike, have released their own version of the Kephart Knife. I'm proud to say Angler's Edge by Colville Outfitters is the first to release a fish themed version of this famous design. We have made them arguably the most beautiful while still maintaining the tool's ability to accomplish the tasks that the original Kephart was known for.
We have Modified our leather sheaths and added a rectangular metal piece for you to clip any additional tools. Here in the photo is a retractor pliers attached. The belt loop will hold a 2" belt but if the buckle has snaps/clips on both ends of the belt Larger you won't be able to get them through. I tried to get a wide wading belt through it without success.

Below is an actual quoted description of a knife Mr. Kephart preferred from his Camping and Woodcraft Book.
"Nothing is gained by a longer blade, and it would be in one’s way every time he sat down. Such a knife, bearing the marks of hard usage, lies before me. Its blade and handle are each 4 inches long, the blade being 1 inch wide, 1 1/8 inch thick on the back, broad pointed, and continued through the handle as a hasp and riveted to it. It is tempered hard enough to cut green hardwood sticks, but soft enough so that when it strikes a knot or bone it will, if anything, turn rather than nick; then a whet stone soon puts it in order. The Abyssinians have a saying, “If a sword bends, we can straighten it; but if it breaks, who can mend it?” So, with a knife or hatchet.
The handle of this knife is of oval cross-section, long enough to give a good grip for the whole hand, and with no sharp edges to blister one’s hand. It has a 1/2-inch knob behind the cutting edge as a guard, but there is no guard on the back, for it would be useless and in the way. The handle is of light but hard wood, 3/4 inch thick at the butt and tapering to 1/2 inch forward, so as to enter the sheath easily and grip it tightly. If it were heavy, it would make the knife drop out when I stooped over. The sheath has a slit frog binding tightly on the belt and keeping the knife well up on my side. This knife weighs only 4 ounces. It was made by a country blacksmith and is one of the homeliest things I ever saw; but it has outlived in my affections the score of other knives that I have used in competition with it and has done more work than all of them put together. The Marble’s “expert” knife is a good pattern.”
